Cosmetic Acupuncture Treatment
What is involved in a treatment?
The initial consultation takes approximately one and a half hours. We take your full medical history, TCM history, make a diagnosis and begin treatment. Acupuncture points are selected to suit your particular condition and on how you are showing the signs of ageing.
Extremely fine sterile single use only needles are inserted into specific points on the face and body in order to correct the imbalances that are contributing to the signs of ageing. These help restore normal energy flow and stimulate and improve your body’s natural ability to heal itself. The needles are left in place for approximately 20 minutes and when they are removed you are given a relaxing facial massage using 100% pure organic rose hip oil. We also give you skin care, lifestyle and dietary advice as part of your treatment.
Follow up treatments take approximately one hour.
How many treatments will I need?
For best results we recommend you attend twice weekly treatments over six weeks reducing to weekly treatments for a further three weeks - a total of fifteen treatments. This allows the treatment to take advantage of your body's natural skin rejuvenation cycle (approximately 28 days); the lines on your face soften as you grow new tissue and your skin cells are renewed.
We can also do intensive treatment packages over a shortened time frame to enhance your skin's appearance for special events or to accommodate your schedule. Treatments can be scheduled daily to accelerate the effects with full benefits continuing over your skin's rejuvenation cycle. These intensive treatment packages can be combined over two different skin cycles to enhance the results.
Once the initial course is completed, maintenance sessions are recommended to maintain the improvements. These can vary in frequency depending on your age, skin type and your general health. They usually involve only one session set anywhere from monthly to once every 2 – 5 years. This will be discussed in detail with you once your assessment takes place.
Are there any risks or side effects?
The main side effect is looking and feeling great! There is a small risk (3%) of slight bruising that will fade as a normal bruise would fade. Other potential side effects of any acupuncture treatment can include feeling drowsy, minor pain on needle insertion and fainting. These side effects generally occur in very small numbers (often less than 1% of patients experience these effects).
